The Lycée Français International Théodore Monod (LFITM) is a prestigious school located in Abu Dhabi, currently welcoming 1,650 students from preschool to senior year on its Saadiyat campus, equipped with outstanding facilities. For the upcoming school year, the Bateen campus will reopen after a complete renovation, allowing LFITM to host its students across two sites: the Bateen site, dedicated exclusively to primary students, and the Saadiyat site, which will continue to serve both primary and secondary students.
LFITM is a place of cultural and academic enrichment, with students representing over 50 nationalities. At the heart of this diversity, the school promotes a bilingual and multicultural environment, providing students with a rigorous and globally-oriented education. LFITM is a French school accredited by the French Ministry of Education, a member of the AEFE network (Agency for French Education Abroad), and is supervised by ADEK (Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge).
The institution is managed by AFLEC (Franco-Lebanese Association for Education and Culture) and is partnered with the French Mission Laïque (Mlf). LFITM is also recognized as a Cambridge International School.
Main Mission
The primary class teacher will be responsible for teaching English language and a portion of the French curriculum in English to two bilingual track primary classes, from levels TPS (Pre-K) to CM2 (Grade 5). Each class represents a half- time teaching commitment, combining to a full-time position. The candidate will support bilingual learning, fostering both linguistic and academic growth in a multicultural setting.
Responsibilities and Activities
Teaching the French Curriculum in English
Deliver a portion of the French curriculum in English, adapting lesson plans to the bilingual track to support students’ academic and linguistic development.
Create and implement interactive and inclusive teaching methods that cater to the diverse needs of young learners.
English Language Instruction
Provide structured English language lessons focused on enhancing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills.
Employ a variety of resources and activities to develop students’ proficiency and confidence in English.
Support for Bilingual Learning
Foster bilingual competency by incorporating teaching methods that encourage both English language acquisition and cultural understanding.
Create an immersive learning environment where students can naturally develop English fluency alongside the French curriculum.
Classroom Management and Student Engagement
Maintain a positive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and respect.
Monitor student progress, provide individualized support as needed, and communicate regularly with parents about students’ achievements and areas for improvement.
Participation in School Projects and Events
Contribute to school projects and events that support bilingualism and cultural exchange within the LFITM community.
Collaborate with colleagues on initiatives that align with the school’s mission of providing a diverse, bilingual education.
Desired Profile
Degree
Teaching certification (e.g., PGCE, CAPES) and/or Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
Experience
Proven teaching experience at the primary level, ideally within an international or bilingual school setting.
Skills
Native or equivalent proficiency in English, essential for bilingual primary teaching.
Knowledge of effective teaching strategies for young bilingual learners.
Excellent classroom management skills, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit.
Proficiency in French is an asset in a bilingual environment.
